Wind Turbines on Water_edited.jpg

My name is Nia and  I was born and raised in Washington, D.C. Not your traditional city girl but I have moved all over the country (Atlanta, GA, Boston, MA) to achieve my dream of being an engineer. I currently live in Oakland, CA and am a staff member at the University of California, Berkeley.

I began my energy career when I was 16 years old interning at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission where I learned the ins and outs of nuclear waste. Take a peak at my resume below to learn more about my experiences.

The Energy Queen was birthed out of time in my life where everything was uncertain in the World. I was gearing up to start my masters journey with the Energy & Resources Group at UC Berkeley. I struggled with imposter syndrome due to my intersectional identities and began to question my place in my masters. I started calling myself "The Energy Queen" to give myself a confidence boost and now - it's my brand.

Fun Facts: I've been a cheerleader since I was 10 and cheered professionally for the Boston Celtics Green Team in the 2019-2020 season. I love to cook and my favorite food are shrimp tacos. I am a certified sunset chaser and have a photo album of 100+ sunset photos.

My dream is to be an off-shore wind developer. Ever heard of wind turbines in the ocean???
